Saradambika: 10 MW Biomass Energy for Maharashtra’s Grid
Saradambika, a 10 MW Biomass Power Plant nestled in Chimur, India, stands as a beacon of sustainable energy for Maharashtra’s grid. This project not only harnesses local biomass potential but also champions environmental conservation, health improvement, and emission reductions, with an estimated 353,487 tonnes of CO2 eq. saved over a 10-year crediting period.
Harnessing Biomass Potential:
Saradambika Power Plant (P) Ltd. is strategically located in Chimur Village, Chandrapur District, Maharashtra. It taps into the abundant biomass resources, replacing reliance on fossil fuels like coal and gas. This initiative aims to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, conserve local resources, and alleviate environmental pressures.
Utilizing Local Biomass Fuels:
The Saradambika 10 MW Biomass Energy project focuses on the effective utilization of available biomass fuels such as rice husk, Juliflora, and crop residues like cotton stalks, soya bean stalks, and wheat husk. Through a comprehensive biomass resource assessment, the project ensures a sustainable and region-specific approach to power generation.
Sustainable Economic Growth:
The generated power is seamlessly integrated into the state grid, contributing to sustainable economic growth and addressing the increasing demand for electricity. By exporting electricity to the 33 kV MSEDCL substation in Chimur Village, located 4 km away, the project actively participates in reducing the demand and supply gap in the region.
Climate Change Mitigation:
Operating on the Rankine cycle route, the project employs direct combustion of biomass in a multi-fuel fired boiler, generating high-pressure, high-temperature steam that drives an impulse turbine generator set. This sustainable energy production supports climate change mitigation, resulting in an impressive emission reduction of 353,487 tonnes of CO2 eq. over the 10-year crediting period.
Commissioned for Sustainable Impact:
Commissioned in June 2008, Saradambika continuously generates and supplies energy to Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Co Ltd (MSEDCL), contributing to the state’s energy needs in an environmentally conscious manner.
