Jilin Gongzhuling Biomass Generation Project
Rice straw, maize straw, and waste wood are used as fuel for power generation. The annual electricity quantity generated is 186,270MWh and supplied to the Northeast China Power Grid (NECPG).
The implementation of the project supplies 305,500 tonnes of biomass residue (on wet basis) yearly. In the absence of the project, these biomass residues would be dumped or left to decay mainly under aerobic conditions. The project achieves emission reductions via avoiding CO2 emissions from the same amount of electricity generated by NECPG, which is mainly composed of traditional fossil fuel fired power plants.
Contribution of the project activity to sustainable development
Grid connected biomass residue power development comply with the national energy strategy. The project not only supplies renewable electricity to the grid, but also contributes to sustainable development of the local community and the host country by means of:
Contribution to Technological Wellbeing
- Helping to stimulate the growth of the biomass power industry in China.
Contribution to Economic Wellbeing:
- Bring additional revenue for local farmers because of the increase demand for rice straw and maize straw.
Contribution to Environmental Wellbeing:
- Reducing the emissiosn of other pollutants resulting from the power generation industry in China, compared to a business-as-usual scenario.
- Reducing the pollution of dumped or decayed biomass residues.
Contribution to Social Wellbeing:
- Providing local employment opportunities during the construction and operation period of the Project.
