Fujian Jiangle Gaotang Hydropower Project
The project is a low water-head hydropower initiative with an installed capacity of 42 MW. It generates an annual electricity output of 140.086 GWh, which is supplied to the grid. By displacing an equivalent amount of electricity from the East China Power Grid (ECPG), which is primarily powered by fossil fuels, the project achieves significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions. The estimated annual GHG reductions amount to 111,368 tCO2e.
Contribution to Sustainable Development
The project contributes to sustainable development through the following indicators:
Social Wellbeing
- Generates employment opportunities in the region, stimulating economic activities.
- Strengthens the local electricity grid, improving the quality, frequency, and availability of electricity in a previously deficit grid.
Economic Wellbeing
- Creates both direct and indirect job opportunities for the local community.
- Boosts the local economy through the sale of electricity and Certified Emission Reductions (CERs), increasing tax revenues for the local government.
- Eases the power shortage in Fujian Province by supplying additional electricity.
Environmental Wellbeing
- Reduces reliance on coal-fired power plants, thereby preventing pollution associated with coal burning.
Technological Wellbeing
- Utilizes clean, renewable hydropower technology to harness hydroelectric resources effectively.
